213 MW Reciprocating Engines based Combined cycle power project at Narowal , Punjab

HUBCO extended its power Generation facility by installing a new 213 MW RFO power project at Narowal , Punjab. The EPC contractor was MAN Germany, Mott MacDonald Pettit Dublin & MM Pakistan performed as Owner’s Engineer for the Design vetting and construction supervision. The project has successfully completed and supplying Power to the NTDC system to overcome its share of Power supply- Demand gap. The brief project components are: HUBCO (The Owner) has awarded the design, engineering and procurement, contract to MANN Germany, responsible for supply and delivery of the Diesel Engines RFO Based Combined cycle power project with all BOP, while the construction agreement for main civil works , erection, start up , commissioning and testing of the project is awarded to M/S Man Diesel Pakistan (pvt), 16 KM Raiwind Road Lahore on 18th June ,2008.. The set up of this project consists of the following main components. 11 Diesel Engines Generators.sets 11 HRSGs and One Aux: Boiler. One Steam Turbine. RFO system including storage Tanks and Decanting arrangements Cooling Water System. Chemical Water Treatment Plant Compressed Air System 132 KV Substation MV/LV Power systems. KESC’s Korangi Thermal Power Station – Extension Project

Karachi City’s was facing severe Power supply –demand gap. To overcome this shortfall, KESC planned to increase the power generation capability of existing Korangi Thermal Power Station (KTPS) by installing additional generators KESC, now as a duly privatized utility, engaged MM Pakistan (Pvt.) Limited (MMP) in association with MML UK as Owner’s Engineer role to provide project management consultancy for the development of 220 MW CCPP at existing Korangi Thermal power plant. The services commenced during year 2007. The scope of services includes design vetting of the contractor (METKA’s ) design, contract administration & construction supervision etc.

KESC’s 560 Bin Qasim Combined Cycle Thermal Power Plant.

KESC planned to develop a 560 MW combined cycle power generation plant within the premises of existing Bin Qasim Thermal Power Plant. Lender’s Independent Engineer on Hub Power Company Limited

The Hub Power Company Limited is an Independent Power provider (IPP) supplying electrical power to WAPDA since 1997. Generating capacity of Hubco Power Plant is 1,200 MW (net). National Bank of Pakistan, the onshore inter-credit agent of Lenders’ syndicate appointed MM Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd. (in association with Mott MacDonald Limited, UK) as Lenders’ Independent Engineer (LIE) to carryout monitoring of Power Plants operations and report.

Multi-Discipline Training Program for Gas Pipeline and LNG Import Projects

Tapal Energy 160 MW Diesel Power Plant

Tapal Energy (Pvt) Limited (TEL) is one of the first generation of Independent Power Plants (IPP) set up in Pakistan under the 1994 Power Policy. It installed a 126 MW Power Plant which was commissioned in June, 1997. The plant is operating successfully since then. TEL initiated a process of preparing a proposal for 160 MW power plant to operate on Residual Fuel Oil (RFO) or Combined Cycle Power Generation technology. On TEL’s invitation, EPC contractors submitted the bids for this plant. The Client approached MM Pakistan (Pvt.) Limited to provide consultancy services alongwith Mott MacDonald Group of United Kingdome, as Owner’s Engineer. The first phase of review and evaluation of EPC contractors, specifications and scope of supply as well as the recommendations Owner’s Engineer has been completed.

117 MW SEPCOL Diesel Power Station – Lender’s Independent Engineer

The Lender of funds, National Bank of Pakistan appointed MM Pakistan in association with Mott MacDonald Ltd of UK, as Independent Engineer to examine and review the operation and maintenance of SEPCOL’s Raiwind Diesel Power Station, every 6 months. The independent Engineer reviews SEPCOL’s quarterly operating reports, carried out site inspection, holds discussions with the Client and operation staff and submitted a detailed report to National Bank of Pakistan, covering Operation and Maintenance activities, Staffing, Financial Analysis, Health, Safety and Environmental aspects etc.

Similarly measures against land slide with also be required at the locations that are close to weak geological formations.

Preparation of Detailed Engineering Design, Tender Documents and PC-1 of Tarbela Dam 4th Extension Hydropower Project

The preparation of Detailed Design and Bidding Documents for the proposed Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project was financed by the credit proceeds for the WCAP.  The detailed studies carried out so far had identified the Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project by installation of a Hydropower plant on the Tarbela Dam 4th Tunnel, which was currently designed as the irrigation tunnel was technically and economically feasible, without affecting the irrigation release capabilities of the Tarbela Dam. Studies also show that the optimum capacity of the hydropower plant on Tunnel-4 is 1410 MW, comprising three generating units of 470 MW each with total annual energy output of 3840 GWh.

The main objective of the proposed consultancy services was to support Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) in project preparation studies, preparation of detailed designs, bidding documents and PC-1 including engineering, economic, environmental and social studies and construction supervision of all works and activities included under the Tarbela Dam 4th –Extension Hydropower Project (T4HP). These works carried out according to international standards, which formed the basis for project appraisal by the World Bank and the Government of Pakistan.

Preparing Irrigation Master Plan for SATPARA Dam Command Area Projects

The Government of Pakistan has constructed a dam on Satpara nullah for power generation and irrigation purposes. Tow irrigation canals namely, Left and Right Bank Canals, have been constructed to irrigate about 15,500 acres of land. USAID is funding a multi-dimensional development project for improving on-farm water management, increasing agricultural productivity through modern techniques, introducing high value crops and providing marketing access to growers for boosting rural economy of the area. The project is implemented by Agha Khan Foundation and the services of MM Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd have been hired for “Preparing Irrigation Master Plan” for modernizing and improving on-farm water management in the irrigated area under Satpara dam command. Construction Supervision for Rehabilitation and Modernisation of Guddu Barrage

The Suki Kinari Hydropower Project is located on Kunhar river between Naran and Paras towns in District Mansehra, in the eastern part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The client, SK Hydro, has contracted a consortium of MMP, MML and Yellow River Engineering Consulting Company, to provide the following services: design review – consisting of a review of both the project design and construction drawings; and project management – consisting of: review of construction plans, detailed specifications and schedules; construction supervision; quality assurance and quality control; health, safety and environmental control; verification of contractor’s invoices; contract management; and services during defects liability period.

4. Consultancy Services for Construction Supervision of Kurram Tangi Dam Project

The Kurram Tangi Dam is located on the Kurram River in North Waziristan Agency. The actual dam site is located 22km upstream of the Kurram Garhi headworks and 32 km north of Bannu city.

MMP, in association with MML, Pakistan Engineering Services (PES), and Development Management Consultants (DMC), has been required to make a detailed proposal for the scope of construction work to be carried out. Our project team is also required to review the available data and studies, based on which we will determine the need for field investigations. Our main task on this project is to supervise construction of the civil works, the manufacture, supply and installation of mechanical / electrical equipment, and manage various contracts to ensure successful completion of the entire project to get the requisite objectives

Project Supervision & Implementation Assistance of Tarbela Dam 4th Extension Hydropower Project

The preparation of Tarbela Dam 4th Extension of Hydropower Project (T4HP) was financed by the credit proceeds for the WCAP. The studies carried out so far have identified that this extension project on Tunnel 4, which has been designed as the irrigation tunnel, is technically and economically feasible, without affecting the irrigation release capabilities of Tarbela Dam. Studies also show that the optimum capacity of the hydropower plant on Tunnel-4 is 1,410 MW, comprising three generating units of 470 MW each, with a total annual energy output of 3,840GWh.

Our consultancy services include supporting WAPDA in project preparation studies, preparation of detailed designs, bidding documents and PC-1 including engineering, economic, environmental and social studies and construction supervision of all works and activities included under the T4HP. These works are being carried out in accordance with international standards, and form the basis for project appraisal by the World Bank and the Government of Pakistan. MMP is providing these services in association with MML, Coyne Et Bellier, ACE, and HR Wallingford.

Preparation of Feasibility, Design, Tender Documents and PC-1 of Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project

This project has been financed from the World Bank loan for Tarbela Dam’s 4th Extension. MMP, in association with MML, Coyne Et Bellier, and ACE Ltd. is providing consultancy services on this assignment, the main objective of which is to support WAPDA in project preparation studies, scoping study, and the preparation of: Tender Design, PQ Documents, Bidding Documents, PC-1, and Project Cost Analysis.
